The Androgen Deficiency in Aging Male (ADAM) Questionnaire
Understand your testosterone levels
The Androgen Deficiency in Aging Males (ADAM) questionnaire was originally published by JE Morley in 2000 at the University of St Louis.
The (ADAM) questionnaire is a self-administered screening tool used to assess the presence and severity of symptoms associated with androgen deficiency, also known as hypogonadism, in older men. Androgens are male sex hormones, with testosterone being the primary androgen.
The ADAM questionnaire consists of a series of ten questions that aim to identify common symptoms associated with low testosterone levels.
Each question usually offers a choice of responses, such as “yes” or “no,” or a rating scale to indicate the severity of the symptom. Based on the individual’s answers, a score is calculated, and a higher score indicates a greater likelihood of androgen deficiency.
Understanding Androgen Deficiency in Aging Males: Exploring Symptoms and Implications
Androgen deficiency, a condition characterized by low testosterone levels in aging males, is a significant concern affecting a considerable portion of the older male population, with an estimated prevalence of approximately 1 in 200 men. Recent research has shed light on this topic, revealing insights into the decline of testosterone and its associated symptoms.
Study Highlights
A comprehensive study, involving 3220 European men, has provided valuable insights into the gradual decline of testosterone levels as men age. The research revealed that testosterone levels decrease by approximately 0.4% per year, while free testosterone levels decline by 1.3% per year. These findings emphasize the gradual nature of this decline and underline the importance of monitoring and addressing androgen deficiency as part of comprehensive healthcare for older men.
Additional Symptoms of Low T
While the ADAM questionnaire is a good starting point to identify if you have an androgen deficiency it is not 100% accurate. Some men might pass the questionnaire but still suffer from low testosterone or Low-T. Additional symptoms of low testosterone levels are listed below.
